A decade ago I sat at a computer, just as I am today, and clicked ‘Upload’ on the very first YouTube video for The Law Simplified. It took months of preparation. Scanning my hand-written Spider Graphs for Tort Law, recording the lectures, editing them to fit ‘bit-sized’ lessons for online consumption and finally appearing on camera to produce this introduction:

“Learn Tort Law in 90 Minutes” — uploaded on 24 January 2014

I hadn’t figured out ‘noise reduction’ or ‘white balancing’, but I realised that I’d rather start this way than not do so at all.

Fast forward a few months of consistently uploading videos on YouTube and growing a student base on the then start-up online course platform, Udemy, I receive my first email request asking for guidance in law. Misbahu Adams, from Ghana. I will always be grateful to Adams since, as a relatively unknown lecturer in law, Adams had faith in my abilities to guide him through his LLB.

Misbahu Mahama Adams graduated with a Second Class (Upper Division) from The Law Simplified

Over the next few years, it was my goal to expand on what I could offer with The Law Simplified. I’ve always believed that ‘the rising tide, lifts all ships’. So, I began teaching more subjects, guiding more students and extending my reach to areas that I felt were holding students and professionals in law back. There were (and still are) many gatekeepers to law and legal education. The Law Simplified was built to open new possibilities for those who would otherwise not be able to succeed in learning the law.
